About This Guide

Choosing a children’s show can feel surprisingly complicated.

Something can be labelled “for kids” and still be very fast-paced, highly stimulating, frightening, difficult for a young child to follow or full of behaviour you would rather they weren’t copying five minutes later.

And age ratings don’t tell you all of that.

The TV Shows Guide: Ages 2–5 was created to make those decisions a little easier.

Rather than choosing programmes based on age ratings alone, recommendations consider factors such as pace and stimulation, emotional tone, behaviour modelling, language, story complexity and the skills or learning a programme may support.

The recommendations are organised by age, so you can quickly find options suited to your child’s stage. You’ll find a carefully selected mix of gentle television shows, educational programmes, short films and longer movies, including both newer favourites and wonderful older programmes that are still worth discovering.

Each recommendation tells you why it made the list, along with quick tags highlighting the areas it may support — making it easier to decide whether a programme is a good fit for your child.

The guide also includes practical guidance around screen time, family screen rules and what to look for when choosing children’s content, so you’re not simply walking away with another enormous list of shows.

The goal isn’t to find “perfect” television.

It’s to help you make more intentional choices about what comes onto your child’s screen.

WHY PARENTS LOVE THIS GUIDE

It goes beyond age ratings.

Age ratings can tell you whether content is considered suitable for a particular age, but they don’t tell you everything a parent might want to know. The guide considers pace, stimulation, emotional tone, behaviour modelling and developmental value too.

The recommendations are actually curated.

This isn’t a list of every children’s programme available. Shows, short films and movies have been selected intentionally, giving you a smaller, more useful collection of options rather than hundreds of titles to sort through yourself.

It’s organised by age.

Recommendations are grouped for ages 2–3, 3–4 and 4–5, making it easy to find content suited to where your child is developmentally.

It helps you choose — not just restrict.

The focus isn’t simply on telling parents what children shouldn’t watch. It’s about helping you identify what makes children’s content worth choosing and giving you plenty of good alternatives.
